I'm actually not doing 30 days.

I'm doing 90 🤯

Today is day four of taking my own class, and I've finished my first quilt top (𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝗖𝗥𝗔𝗣 𝘁𝗼 𝗷𝗼𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝗲). It feels good to have my first finish 😊

Have you ever done something that made you really scared but also excited 😱

That was totally me when I decided to do a 90-day scrap challenge.

Here's a little trip down memory lane for ya:

1️⃣ The problem: I decided to quit writing quilt patterns. They left me feeling creatively stuck, and a lot of other quilters mentioned feeling the same way.

2️⃣ The solution? To give myself and others a TEMPLATE so we can use create more intuitively than what traditional patterns allow for.

3️⃣ I wrote a book with over 150,000 different quilt block combinations... but it needed something more. Books are boring. We all have tons of them that we don't ever use.

4️⃣ I added a Canva template and three mini courses so you can design your own quilts and the cutting/piecing instructions are ready to go. (Bonus, it works on your phone so you can design even when you're not home).

The idea of taking my own course and posting about it for 90 days is TERRIFYING, but it's worth it to see so many people getting inspired by it (and my own creative spark came back!).

I've seen my fair share of quilters throw out their scraps (😫😬) because they can't get their scrap quilts to "look right."

Their biggest reason?

"I'm not creative enough to make scrap quilts."

That's totally understandable. Patterns are made to sell fabric, not to help you use up scraps (the professionals won't admit it, but it's true).

✨️My top tip for using scraps: ✨️

Don't put all of them in the same quilt!

It's like making fridge cleanout soup: you don't put EVERYTHING in it, it would taste like 💩

Creativity works better when you have a SYSTEM.

That's what Scrap Academy is: my entire design system.

Get a system that shows you how to use what you already have so you can quit buying patterns (that you'll probably never use)

I thought I was going to do another version of the rainbow quilt that went viral last year 🌈💗

Halfway through sorting, I realized that wasn't going to happen. It would have be almost 11 feet long 🤯

Um... no. Nobody needs that much quilt. We aren't the type to cuddle with the whole dang neighborhood 😂

So I split it into warm and cool colors, and I'm SO smitten with how it turned out! ❤️🧡💗💛

It's amazing how making this class put SO much life back into my own creativity. A month ago, I was ready to close my business. My creativity had left the building. I didn't care if I ever made anything again.

But the class was 🤏 this close to being ready, and I wanted to be the type of person who finishes what I start, so I hit publish.

I didn't even care if nobody bought it (but they are, like a LOT), it was an exercise in finding myself again. I published it to prove that I could finish something even after creative burnout.

Little did I know that not only would it bring back my own creative spark, but so many others would use it to find their way back into the sewing room as well.

Now I'm retaking my own class, and it feels even better than it did the first time. The creativity is deeper. The connection feels more artistic. And the quilts I'm making?

They feel like ME.
